Open Call für Zirkus-Residenzen

Wir lassen das Jahr 2025 mit "good news" ausklingen: Die Zirkushalle Dornbirn freut sich darüber auch im Jahr 2026 vollumfängliche Zirkusresidenzen im Februar und im April anbieten zu können!

 

Beschreibung:

Die Zirkushalle Dornbirn ist ein Produktionsort für zeitgenössischen Zirkus (inklusive Clownerie) und möchte dementsprechend die Zirkusszene unterstützen. Deshalb gibt es bei uns die Möglichkeit für professionelle zeitgenössische Zirkusartist:innen sich für einen Residenzaufenthalt in der Zirkushalle Dornbirn (Vorarlberg, Österreich) zu bewerben. Inhaltlich gibt es dabei keine Vorgaben: ob erste Ideen für eine neue Produktion kreiert werden oder ein beinahe fertiges Stück finalisiert wird – die Zirkushalle Dornbirn möchte Künstler:innen in ihren Arbeitsprozessen unterstützen, wo es für diese notwendig ist. 

 

Die artistischen Residenzen werden ermöglicht durch die Unterstützung des BMWKMS (Bundesministerium für Wohnen, Kunst, Kultur, Medien und Sport) und durch das Kulturamt des Landes Vorarlberg - wir danken unseren Fördergeber:innen dafür!

 

Der Residenzaufenthalt beinhaltet:

- eine volle Woche (7 Tage) in der Zirkushalle Dornbirn als gratis verfügbaren, für die Künstler:innen jederzeit frei zugänglichen Probenort

- Residenzgagen für alle beteiligten Künstler:innen nach Fair-Pay-Richtlinien

- Wohnung zur freien Unterkunft

- Verpflegungspauschale pro Tag pro Künstler:in

- Fahrtkosten nach Kilometergeld

- Betreuung durch das Team der Zirkushalle Dornbirn

- falls gewünscht kann eine kleine Abschlussaufführung oder auch ein work-in-progress-showing vor Publikum organisiert werden

9.2. – 15.2.2026 oder 30.3. – 5.4.26

Frühere Anreise und spätere Abreise sind möglich.

Wer kann sich bewerben:

Die Ausschreibung richtet sich ausschließlich an professionelle Künstler:innen aus dem zeitgenössischen Zirkusbereich (inklusive Clownerie). Bewerbungen aus Österreich werden bevorzugt, nach Möglichkeit werden jedoch auch internationale Bewerbungen berücksichtigt.

Förderkriterien:

Bei der Auswahl der Bewerbungen legen wir besonderen Wert auf künstlerische Relevanz (klarer Bezug zum zeitgenössischen Zirkus/Clownerie und sinnvolle Nutzung der Residenz für Research, Entwicklung oder Feinschliff), Potenzial und Vision (überzeugende Darstellung des künstlerischen Potenzials, auch bei frühen Ideen, mit spannenden oder innovativen Impulsen), Machbarkeit in der Residenz (Passung des Arbeitsplans zur einwöchigen Dauer, Räumlichkeiten und Ressourcen wie Aerial-Aufhängungen oder Boden) sowie Team- und Projektqualität (Stärke des Kernteams, Erfahrung per CVs und Qualität bisheriger Arbeiten via Videos/Portfolio). Ergänzend berücksichtigen wir Vielfalt und Inklusion (Förderung von Diversität in Geschlechtern/Herkunft, Priorität österreichischer Bewerbungen bei Berücksichtigung internationaler), Nachhaltigkeit (Umweltaspekte während der Residenz) und Mehrwert für die Szene (Potenzial für Abschluss-Showings oder Netzwerkeffekte).

 

Jury:

Die Auswahl der Bewerbungen erfolgt durch eine Fach-Jury bestehend aus Sebastian Gerer (GF Zirkushalle Dornbirn), Raffaela Rudigier-Gerer (Zirkushalle Dornbirn/Kulturjournalistin), Franziska Hauser (Booking Krapoldi Festival) und Lisa-Marie Berkmann (Booking Freudenhaus Lustenau), die jeweils fundierte Expertise im zeitgenössischen Zirkus und der Kunstvermittlung mitbringen.

 

 

Infos zur Zirkushalle Dornbirn:

Zwischen Bodensee und Berglandschaft im wunderschönen Vier-Ländereck bietet sich hier ein idealer Kreationsort für Kulturschaffende und ihre Projekte. Die Zirkushalle Dornbirn ist ein Ort für zeitgenössischen Zirkus und Performance. Wir wollen mit diesem Ort Zirkusschaffende unterstützen. Die Zirkushalle besteht inzwischen aus zwei Räumen (190 bzw. 235m2). Darin enthalten sind jeweils eine abgetrennte Backstage-Area mit Lager und voll ausgestatteter Küchenzeile.

We are ending 2025 with some good news: Zirkushalle Dornbirn is delighted to be able to offer full circus residencies in February and April 2026!

 

Description:

The Zirkushalle Dornbirn is a production venue for contemporary circus (including clowning!) and aims to support the circus scene accordingly. That is why we are offering professional contemporary circus artists the opportunity to apply for a residency at the Zirkushalle Dornbirn (Vorarlberg, Austria). There are no requirements in terms of content: whether you are developing initial ideas for a new production or finalizing an almost finished piece, the Zirkushalle Dornbirn aims to support artists in their work processes wherever necessary. 

 

The artistic residencies are made possible by the support of the BMWKMS (Federal Ministry of Housing, Arts, Culture, Media, and Sport) and the Cultural Office of the State of Vorarlberg – we would like to thank our sponsors for this!

 

The residency includes:

- A full week (7 days) in the Dornbirn Circus Hall as a rehearsal space available free of charge and accessible to the artists at any time

- Residency fees for all participating artists in accordance with fair pay guidelines

- Free accommodation

- Daily meal allowance per artist

- Travel expenses based on mileage allowance

- Support from the Zirkushalle Dornbirn team

- If desired, a small final performance or a work-in-progress showing can be organized in front of an audience

 

Possible dates:

February 9–15, 2026, or March 30–April 5, 2026

Earlier arrival and later departure are possible.

The application deadline is January 5, 2026.

 

Who can apply:

The call for applications is aimed exclusively at professional artists from the contemporary circus field (including clowning). Applications from Austria will be given preference, but international applications will also be considered where possible.

Selection criteria:

When selecting applications, we place particular emphasis on artistic relevance (clear connection to contemporary circus/clowning and meaningful use of the residency for research, development or refinement), potential and vision (convincing presentation of artistic potential, even for early ideas, with exciting or innovative impulses), feasibility in the residency (suitability of the work plan for the one-week duration, premises and resources such as aerial rigging or floor space) and team and project quality (strength of the core team, experience as demonstrated by CVs and quality of previous work as demonstrated by videos/portfolio). In addition, we consider diversity and inclusion (promotion of diversity in gender/origin, priority for Austrian applications when considering international ones), sustainability (environmental aspects during the residency) and added value for the scene (potential for final showings or network effects).

 

Jury:

The applications will be selected by a jury of experts consisting of Sebastian Gerer (Managing Director of Zirkushalle Dornbirn), Raffaela Rudigier-Gerer (Zirkushalle Dornbirn/cultural journalist), Franziska Hauser (Booking Krapoldi Festival) and Lisa-Marie Berkmann (Booking Freudenhaus Lustenau), each of whom has extensive expertise in contemporary circus and arts education.

 

Information about the Zirkushalle Dornbirn:

Located between Lake Constance and the mountain landscape in the beautiful four-country corner, this is an ideal creative space for artists and their projects. The Dornbirn Circus Hall is a venue for contemporary circus and performance. We want to use this venue to support circus artists. The circus hall now consists of two rooms (190 and 235m2 respectively). Each room has a separate backstage area with storage and a fully equipped kitchenette.
